I am glad I was able to see Kathy a few times this past year, she is a "friend by marriage” and one of the sweet ones, with the kind of happiness and warmth that was not only felt about her but also experienced while bouncing and reflecting off others. She would definitely ease a room and those in it with her dynamic goodness. A very nice person. She and I walked together to a few classes during the last open school night, and I enjoyed speaking to her, the creeping vines of her illness did nothing to fool either of us, just as love is safe at home despite a decaying house – the inhabiting souls do move somewhere else no matter how long the goodbye. Empty houses don’t make me sad.
But as everyone does, I think of her boys. My own Mom died when I was a teen, and the world immediate became a lonely place in an indescribable way. For all of us, for years, mother is tether, is Earth, Sky and World – losing her was like being flung out of orbit and into a diminished, cold space. But then: I would feel her, like a second sun warming the sky, or as extra stars at night, kindled by her and for me. I hope the boys feel that over time, recognize the glow, and find faith in the extra light – unhoused and so reflecting off everything around, the way Kathy shone in life.

The extended Murphy Family in Co Kerry, Ireland are thinking of you all very much at this time. Having experienced loss ourselves, when the time is right, we have drawn comfort from the wonderful grounding and balance that a parent brings to a home. Even in their non-visual presence, there is a heartfelt comfort, again, when that time too is right. With such glowing tributes I can see that Kathy's boys are amazing young men. I have been praying for you so much the last few days. I pray you've had peaceful moments, joyful moments, and comforting moments as you cope during this very sad time. I saw a rainbow today, which always means something very special to me since the passing of my cousin. I hope you see rainbows, butterflies, cardinals -- or whatever symbol Kathy uses to show you she's still so much a part of your life and love. I pray you see these signs so often.

Dear Kevin & Family,
I had the pleasure of working with and getting to know Kathy from 2012-2013. Our conversations were usually light, covering everything from the outrageous temperature of dunkin donuts coffee to our mutual taste in Alternative Rock music (Kathy had great taste in music). Kathy had the type of sarcastic humor that I thoroughly enjoyed and could relate to on so many levels.
She was truly a one of a kind person who I will miss dearly. My thought & prayers are with Kathy's immediate & extended family through this extremely difficult time.
