Hi Judy and Cam, Im so sorry to hear of Bob’s passing. Bob had a huge influence on my life and is the reason I came to Stony Brook University. Bob has been a friend and colleague for the past 30 years. This began in our time together in the Greenberg lab at Stanford where where in addition to research Bob was an avid wind surfer and tennis player. A few years later, this was followed by Bob recruiting me to Stony Brook. Our interactions continued as collaborators in rotavirus studies at Stony Brook and the VA, and through many personal and academic interactions within the GI Div. Bob was a sounding board, steadying influence, grant and paper coauthor, colleague, friend and neighbor throughout the years. I was so happy to see and talk to Bob on his recent Birthday walk in Port Jefferson. Despite his knowledge of coming events, he was the same Bob I’ve known for 30 years, genuine and upbeat continuing to be amused and tell stories as the 2 of us caught up on recent local and world events and new types of solar panels. I was fortunate to have him as a dear friend in my life and I will always remember Bob in that light.
Sincerely
Erich Mackow and the Mackow Family

Our sincere condolences. Laurie very much enjoyed working with Bob at the Northport VAMC. He was an amazing person, always willing to help others. As our IRB chairperson, Bob ensured that all research was conducted ethically and scientific rigor. He commonly stopped by Laurie's office to chat, when dashing to/from the R&D office suite for IRB-related activities and other meetings. His contributions made a difference -- to help to improve the future quality of our Veteran care provided. He will be sorely missed by all.
Sincerely-
Laurie and Ken Shroyer

Bob's loss has been disheartening to us, and our thoughts have been especially with Judy and Cam. They mean so much to so many, and Bob's contribution to who they have become will continue to enrich the rest of us far beyond his time.

Bob was both an amazing person and tennis player. He was well liked and admired by everyone in the tennis community. We spent over a decade as tennis doubles partners. During that time, Bob and I played quite a few matches and engaged in countless intense practice sessions. In fact, I still fondly recall the many tennis matches he personally carried me through like they were yesterday. Because of the times we spent together, I became a better tennis player.
I feel blessed to have known Bob. I will miss our personal discussions on the way to playing matches, his wisdom regarding many worldly topics and especially his contagious wit.
Rest in Peace Partner

Judy and Cam: I am so sorry to hear of the passing of Bob. As I look back over the many years, I cannot but smile at all the times we spent together and the camaraderie we shared both as professional colleagues and as long standing friends. Bob’s measured views were always a place of solace for me as we traveled the tortuous road of academic medicine together. I will miss him dearly, but my life has been blessed to have him as my friend. Godspeed Robert Shaw.
