Retired Plainview Teacher, Marion Munisteri (Murtha), died on September 3, 2023, at Stony Brook Hospital.
Mrs. Munisteri was raised in Astoria and was a graduate of Bishop McDonnell Memorial High School, St. Joseph’s College, and Hofstra University.
Her teaching career was spent in the elementary and high schools in Plainview. After retirement she continued to pursue her interest in education by working as a substitute teacher in the Three Village School District, as a docent at the Museum in Stony Brook, and at the Montfort Academy in Port Jefferson. She always encouraged students by sending them mail and packages while attending college away from home. Her father taught her that education doesn’t weigh very much so carry as much as you can.
She and her husband of 50 years, Philip, enjoyed spending their winters in Arizona and Florida, traveling to such places as Australia, New Zealand, Sicily, and Malta.
She is survived by her 3 children, Dr. Deirdre Hensen, Philip G. Munisteri, David A. Munisteri, and 4 grandchildren. She will be missed by her daughters-in-law, Kathy and Lisa and son-in-law David Hensen, and dear friend Alice Denton.
Her greatest joy was her family and entertaining people at their home. She enjoyed cooking and finding new recipes.
A mass will be celebrated at St. James RC Church in Setauket, where she was a Eucharist Minister. Burial will take place in the churchyard.
The family request in lieu of flowers that contributions be made to St. Joseph’s College, 155 West Roe Blvd, Patchogue, NY 11772. https://giving.sjny.edu/ And Hope House Ministries, 1 High St, Port Jefferson, NY, 11777. https://www.hhm.org/
