William “Bill” Ludwig Jaeger II, 80, of Stony Brook, NY, passed peacefully at home on April 21, 2022 surrounded by family.
Mr. Jaeger was born on February 24, 1942 to Trellies and William Jaeger of Rego Park, New York. As a child, Mr. Jaeger and his family spent weekends and summers in Stony Brook, where he would spend the rest of his life. Following his graduation from Forest Hills High School in 1959, he went on to study at New York University, graduating in 1963 with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. Mr. Jaeger swam competitively on both his high school and college swim teams. He later added an M.B.A. from Aldelphi University in 1969. During college, Mr. Jaeger participated in ROTC and following his graduation from NYU, was deployed to Vietnam as a First Lieutenant with the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers.
Mr. Jaeger was a respected Professional Engineer and Licensed Land Surveyor across Long Island for 50 years. In 1967, he joined Hawkins and Webb, which he would later come to own as Hawkins, Webb, and Jaeger, Assoc., an engineer, architecture, and survey firm in the heart of Port Jefferson, NY.
On July 18, 1982, Mr. Jaeger married Marilyn Pond at the Old Field Club in Setauket, New York. In 1983, they built a home in Stony Brook, NY, where they have continued to reside.
Mr. Jaeger was a man of profound talent and an unending zest for life. He was a proud member of the Port Jefferson Rotary Club for 55 years, where he served as President and was also a Paul Harris Fellow. He also served for years with Habitat for Humanity, The Boy Scouts of America, and Prison Fellowship. He was a leader in his church, an avid runner, and a yoga instructor. Most importantly, he was a committed Christian, a loving husband, a faithful father to four children, and a grandfather to eight.
Mr. Jaeger is survived by his loving wife, Marilyn, by his daughter Elizabeth “Betsy” Harcourt Lynch and her husband William Russell Lynch of New York, NY, his son, William “Chip” Parker Jaeger and his wife, Heather Macintosh Jaeger, of Milford, PA, his daughter, Caroline Webb Jaeger of Milford, PA, and by his daughter Katherine Noel Jaeger, of Long Beach, NY, as well as eight grandchildren. He is additionally survived by his brother, Robert Jaeger and his wife Carol, and his cousin Trellies Sanchez.
