Tribute

Theodore (Ted) A. Alter, born to the late Lorenz and Mary Alter in New York, NY on August 9, 1920 died peacefully at the age of 101 on January 19, 2022 in Port Jefferson, NY.

Ted was a proud  graduate of Saint Anne’s Academy and Saint John’s University.

Ted served his country during WWII in the Army Air Corp in the China Burma India theater.  He achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant.  He was awarded the Air Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters , the Distinguished Flying Cross with an Oak Leaf Cluster and 3 Battle Stars.

After his war service he was a partner in a freight forwarding company before he joined Allstate Insurance Company where he enjoyed a successful 40 year career.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 78 years, Bernadette (nee Lyons), son Jeffrey & his wife Lisa, and preceded in death by son Robert.  He is also survived by daughter-in-law MaryLou Alter, Cherished grandchildren Christopher (Tara) , Timothy (Deborah), Michael (Crystal), Mary, Billy, Jeffrey and Kate and blessed with 7 great grandchildren Harper, Brodie, Colton, Tucker, Nolan, Ryan and Jasmine.  Forever grateful to Nadine Lewars for her continued love care and compassion for Ted and Berne.
