Steven Robert McAllister

McAllister, Steven R, aged 39, of Jersey City, formerly of Bay City, MI, died suddenly on May 31s.  Beloved husband of Maureen Sheridan.  Loving, devoted father of Lily Madeline (deceased), Liam James and Elliot Steven McAllister.  Cherished son of Steven and Margaret McAllister, brother of Amanda Waldmann (Jeff), grandson of Maxine Priest, son-in-law of Dorothy Sheridan (James, deceased), and brother-in-law of James Sheridan (Cassie). Survived by uncles and aunts Clarence (Leslie) and John (Susan) McAllister, Audrey Schaffer, and Vilene (Mark) Macrury, Laura (Phil) Sorberg, JoAnne Simunic, Betty (Joe) Croteau, Bob (Birgett) and Mark (Vikki) Priest, Bonnie (Richard) Timm, Linda (Chris) Rivard, and Brad Mularz, as well as by many cousins.  Preceded in death by grandparents Robert J. Priest, Clarence and Audrey McAllister, Aunt Brenda Mularz and Uncle Todd Schaffer.

Steve spent the last twenty years working tirelessly to end sexual violence and advocating passionately for survivors.  He was well known at Central Michigan University for his advocacy and educational work with Sexual Assault Peer Advocates (SAPA) and founded an educational group focused on involving men in the fight against sexual violence (One in Four).  Over the years Steve spoke to thousands of students as well as trained countless student leaders, staff and faculty at universities across the country.  His work to end sexual violence continued in positions at Lehigh University, The New School, New Jersey Coalition Again Sexual Assault (NJCASA), and as an instructor and Mobile Training Team lead for the United States Army Sexual Harassment/Assault Response and Prevention (SHARP) program.

Steve is also survived by numerous family and friends across the country who will miss the intensity of his caring, his dedication to social justice and advocacy work, his willingness to stand up for what he believed in, his sharing a thoughtful opinion with that same intensity, his infectious laughter (with an uncanny ability to call out the absurd), and having opportunities to loudly argue with him about things about which we agree.  Steve dedicated his life to making the world a better place, and, in the short time he had with them, instilled the same values in his most cherished loves, his two young sons.
