Scott M. Nicholas
August 30, 1974 ~ November 19, 2023 (age 49) 49 Years Old
Scott was born on August 30, 1974 in Smithtown, NY. He was a graduate of the State University of New York Maritime College. After graduating, he served on many United States Navy ships. During h is early sailing years, he was made an executive officer and deployed to the Middle East in support of operation Iraqi Freedom. Scott rose to the rank of Captain at the age of 35, one of the youngest to reach that command rank. He proudly held that rank on the USNS Brittin. Later in his career, he became a professor at the United States Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, where he taught nautical science and was responsible for all ship simulations.
In 2006, he married the love of his life, Heather O’Connor, in Charlotte, NC. They later became the parents of two wonderful children, Connor and Alyse, where they now reside in Mount Sinai, NY. Scott would endlessly speak of how proud he was of them and their achievements, whether in school, sports or most importantly how kind-hearted and caring they are. He enjoyed spending his time coaching them or just cheering them on from the sideline. The family spent many happy times on the ski slopes and boating with their good friends. He also enjoyed mountain biking and hiking with his dogs, Rogue and Finley.
Scott is survived by his wife, Heather. His children, Connor and Alyse. His parents, Philip and Diane Nicholas. His sister and her family, Stacy, Bill, Annalise and Ava Scorzari. Along with many more relatives and friends that he considers family. His sense of humor, honesty, selflessness and strength will be missed by all.
