Rose Marie Mackin

Rose Mackin was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, great aunt, cousin, and friend.   Rose always found joy during her 98 years in this world before going to her reward on Thursday, December 16, 2021.  Her daughter called her Mommy, Mom; her grandson called her Grams, Grammy, Gran Madre; and to her great grandchildren, she is GG and GG Rose.  Besides her daughter, Joanne, and Joanne's husband, George O'Shea, Rose is survived by her two grandsons, Keith Jaret, wife Caroline Jaret, and their children: Alexa, Julia, and Tommy; and Brian O'Shea, wife Laurie O'Shea, and their daughter, Madaghan.
Rose was born to Katherine and Joseph Keenan on May 3, 1923.  After graduating from (St. Patrick's) Cathedral High School, NYC, she had several jobs working at Woolworth's (Five & Dime) in midtown NYC.  In her early life, Rose had many joyful years in the Bronx where she and her husband, Vinny, started a family with their only daughter, Joanne.  They enjoyed countless large family dinners living in the same neighborhood with all the Mackins.  
Eventually they moved to the suburbs where Rose cherished the long lasting and great friendships she developed while working several decades in Library Acquisitions at SUNY Stony Brook, NY.  Rose loved spending time in the kitchen and entertaining new and old friends.  While she outlived most of her friends, she was quick to make new deep meaningful connections, over tea of course. No one was a stranger to her, just a friend Rose had not spoken to yet.
 
Visitation is scheduled for 9:30am to 10:30am, Monday 12/27/21 at Bryant Funeral Home (411 Old Town Rd, East Setauket, NY) 
Followed by an 11am mass at St. James Church (429 NY-25 A Setauket, NY).
In lieu of flowers, please say "Hi" to someone new and brighten each other's day on Rose's behalf.
