August 28, 1943 ~ November 22, 2023 (age 80) 80 Years Old
Martina was born in White Plains in 1943, while her father was serving in WW2. When he returned, the family moved to Ossining NY where she spent the rest of her childhood. She graduated from Ossining High School in 1959, and then attended White Plains Hospital School of Nursing. During this time, she met her husband, Chris, at a mixer in 1964. They moved to Boston in 1965, where she began her career as an orthopedic scrub nurse at the Lahey Clinic, while Chris pursued a PhD in microbiology.
In 1968 they married at Scarborough Church in Westchester. They moved to New York City in 1970, where Chris attended medical school, and their first child, Christopher, was born. From 1974-1979 they lived in Pittsburgh, where Chris completed his training in Internal Medicine and Infectious Disease and their second child, Mara, was born. They moved to Stony Brook in 1979 where they have resided ever since. Martina had a passion for choral music and was an active member of the Long Island Symphonic Choral Association since 1980. She served on the board or as vice president of LISCA for many years. She loved tending to her garden, and belonged to the Three Village Garden Club. Over the years she was active in various charitable endeavors organized by The Setauket Presbyterian Church. Most recently, she volunteered at the local soup kitchen and Meals on Wheels. She enjoyed her many friends, book clubs, traveling (including bicycle excursions), and the Three Village Democratic club.
There was nothing she loved and enjoyed more than spending time with her 4 beautiful grandchildren. She is survived by her husband, Chris, her son and daughter Chris and Mara, her sister Carolyn and her four grandchildren, Max, Molly, Hunter, and Henry.
