On Tuesday, April 28, 2020, Dr. Louis V. Nannini, loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away at the age of 103 of pneumonia secondary to COVID-19. Lou was born on December 12, 1916 in Jersey City, NJ as a son of immigrant parents from Italy. The family moved to Cornwall, NY and started a summer resort called Villa Nannini. Lou went on to be salutatorian of his high school and attended Columbia University where he obtained both his Masters and Doctorate degrees in Education. He served in World War II in the Pacific Theater. During his military training in Texas, he met Mary Katherine Douglas and they fell in love and were married. He was a Teacher, Principal, and Superintendent of Schools for Manhasset, Half Hollow Hills, Schenectady, Middle Island, Longwood and Brentwood. More than that, he was loved by all those he encountered. After retirement, he served as a consultant in multiple endeavors including fundraising, finance, and education. After 58 years of married life, he lost his beloved Kay. He then moved into the Jefferson's Ferry Lifetime Community and restarted his life. He became involved in multiple activities including chairing committees involved in Great Decisions, Bridge clubs and multiple excursions. It is there where he met Peg Schneider, who brought him comfort and a whole new wonderful family. His incredible insight, concerns for others and remarkable accomplishments was just a small part of this man. He is preceded in his death by his father Victorio, mother Theresa, sister Mary, wife Mary Katherine, and daughter Mary Theresa. He is survived by his daughter Susan, son- in- law Patrick, son Victor and daughter-in-law Kathy and son-in law Jim. His grandchildren include Noelle, Christopher, Daniel, Melissa, Jeffrey and Andrew, along with great grandchildren Abigail, Jonathan, Michael, William, Rebecca, Ellayna, and Jason. Due to the COVID -19 situation, only personal family plans are to be held. However, a celebratory event on a life well lived will be held in the near future.
