Resided in East Setuaket, New York, since October 1982. Widowed; two children, six grandchildren, 1 great grandchild. Born and educated in New York. Received undergraduate degree from Queens College, City University of New York (1961), and Juris Doctor Degree from St. John's University, School of Law (1964). Admitted to practice before New York and Federal courts.
While in college and law school, he was a Licensed Real Estate Salesman for Leeds of Laurelton Real Estate. His first position, after completing his legal education, involved title examinations and title closings for a national title insurance company. Concurrently, he closed mortgage loans for a major mortgage company and a Long Island bank.
Mr. Leeds joined Anchor Chemical Co., Inc. in 1965. Besides his legal responsibilities, his activities included contract purchasing, union contracts and labor relations. Shortly after, he was promoted to Vice President, Industrial Relations. In June, 1972, he was appointed Executive Vice President of Anchor Chemical and its subsidiaries. Mr. Leeds also served as President of Agnate Chemicals, Inc., Anchor's West Coast affiliate. After the acquisition of Anchor Chemical by Chessco Industries, Inc. of Fairfield, CT in August, 1978, Mr. Leeds was promoted to the position Vice President of Administration, Chessco Industries, Inc., a publicly traded corporation (OTC), the parent company, at corporate headquarters in Southport, Connecticut.
Since 1982, he has been engaged in the general practice of law in East Setauket, NY and is of counsel to Simkovic & Levine, attorneys in Patchogue, NY. Until the bank was sold, he was local counsel to California Federal Savings and Loan Association. He also served as a local closing attorney for Standard Federal Savings Bank of Ann Arbor, MI. Mr. Leeds served on the Advisory Board of First American Title Insurance Company of New York, the Advisory Board of Chicago Title and was also a Licensed Real Estate Broker.
A founding member of Temple Beth Emeth of Mount Sinai, Mr. Leeds was its second president. Mr. Leeds is a member of Phi Alpha Delta Legal Fraternity and the American Bar Association. He is Past President of the Long Island Graphic Arts Association, Association of the Graphic Arts, a printing industry group, and served on its Board of Directors for 18 years. He is also a past president of B'nai B'rith Graphics Arts Lodge. Mr. Leeds also served as an arbitrator for the Better Business Bureau, is a biographee in Marquis' Who's Who in the East and is a member of the Long Island Board of Relations.
