It is with the deepest regret that I write this post to inform our International EECP Society community that Dr. John Hui, EECP pioneer and founder of Vasomedical died on Thursday, November 9, 2017 of cardiac arrest. 

Working with associates in the Department of Medicine at the State University of New York at Stonybrook and Sun Yat Sen University in China he introduced EECP therapy to the U.S. market upon receiving U.S. FDA market clearance for the therapy and founded Vasomedical Inc. in Westbury, NY in 1995.

For more than 20 years, having retired only a few years ago, John was a researcher, writer, teacher, mentor, leader and friend in the world of EECP therapy. He maintained a worldwide clinical network of EECP users, researchers and opinion leaders, lending his knowledge and expertise to the mission of creating greater awareness about EECP therapy and making it available to more patients everywhere. Whether writing protocols for studies, speaking at medical and healthcare conferences, co-authoring clinical papers, or simply discussing EECP or a myriad of medical issues John was always available to provide support for those also engaged in some aspect of EECP therapy.

In October 2013, John working closely with colleagues in the U.S. and China, successfully helped launch the International EECP Society at a symposium on EECP therapy at the 24th Great Wall International Congress of Cardiology and Asian Pacific Heart Congress in Beijing. The Society was relaunched again, after his retirement, in 2016.

EECP therapy was a passion for John, only to be exceeded by the love for his family. He is survived by his wife, Ying-He Liu, a noted artist, of whom he was very proud and his daughter Ming-Min, whose many accomplishments he extolled to anyone who would spend a few minutes with him.

John was absent from our daily lives in retirement, but left his impression with us on the importance of the therapy and making it available to more patients around the world. Those that worked with him and those that knew him will sorely miss his “presence” in our lives now that he is gone.
