Joan was a woman of deep faith who loved God, her family, history, traveling, gardening, and reading. Before retirement, Joan worked as the Parish Administrator at her beloved historic Caroline Church in Setauket. Joan’s favorite task during this time was to dress in her colonial costume and give grade school children tours of the church and grounds. Joan loved the outdoors, in all seasons, and shared adventures with her family in local parks. These included arboretums in the spring, beaches in the summer, hikes in the late fall with hot tomato soup for lunch, sledding in the winter. For many years, Joan volunteered as a Girl Scout Leader, sharing her skills and talents, and encouraging girls from elementary through high school to go out of their comfort zone and reach high. Joan’s love of gardening was shared with family, friends and neighbors, who were beneficiaries of various plants and cuttings, with detailed instructions on how to care and grow their tender new plants. To know her was to love her and she will truly be missed.
Those left to carry on her legacy of love include her husband and best friend of 64 ½ years, Charles Neuls, Jr., children Diane, Patricia and her husband Ron, Susan and her husband Ray, grandchildren Michael, Katherine, Andrew, Brian, Cassandra, Charlie, and brother Richard. Joan was predeceased by her sister Elsie.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests donations to be made in Memory of Joan Neuls to:
