Dr. Eric Y. Lin

Eric Y. Lin, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and physician, passed away the morning of Thursday, July 23rd surrounded by family. He was 87, at the end of a long, fruitful, and independent life.

Eric was born in Taichung, Taiwan in 1933 and graduated from the Republic of China National Defense Medical Center as an Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) surgeon. In 1961, at the age of 28, he married his wife of 59 years, Juliet. They had three children - Richard, Judy, and Betty. The family immigrated to the United States in 1973, where Eric retrained as a psychiatrist. They settled in Vestal, NY, where Eric worked at Binghamton State Hospital Psychiatric Center, and later Broome County Mental Health Clinic. He was loved by his patients and colleagues at both institutions, and continued to serve patients until the age of 80. He spent some of his retirement in New York City, regularly riding the subway down to Chinatown for groceries, and the later years with family on Long Island.

He was so proud of his family, and especially loved to talk about his grandchildren.  He is remembered by his wife Juliet; his son Richard and wife Chieko; daughter Judy and husband Adam; daughter Betty and husband Joe; and grandchildren Austine, Shelby, Chloe and husband Ryan, Christopher, and Winston.
