Daniel E. Diers, age 43, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, October 5, 2017.  Dan’s cause of death, an undetected enlarged heart, is an ironically apt name for the family man, fisherman and welcoming host Dan truly was.  Dan, the eldest of four siblings, was born on April 29th, 1974 to Eric and Julie (Sacco) Diers.  Dan grew up in Deer Park with his brother, Adam Diers, and graduated from Deer Park High School in 1992.  Dan and his dad, Eric, performed a full chassis-off restoration and custom paint job on his first Jeep, a 1979 Cherokee, which Dan proudly used as his ‘wheels’ in college.  Dan graduated from SUNY Cobleskill in 1997 with a Bachelor’s in Fisheries and Wildlife (Aquaculture). Although grown and living independently, Dan and his brother, Adam worked together on projects such as renovating and selling their grandmother’s house, and traveled and fished together.  They welcomed their sisters, Karen and Cynthia into the family, with Dan being the ‘go-to’ person for Math homework.  Dan married Julienne (Carone) Diers in 2003 (d. 7/21/10) and was the proud father of their two sons, Nathaniel and Mason Diers.  Dan, Nate and Mason were joined with Stephanie Friend and her son, Jack Friend by marriage in 2016, forming a family and building a life in their Strongs Neck community of Setauket, Long Island.  Dan, an independent, hard-working perfectionist established his business, Diers Electric, in 2003, and was well respected in the community for the quality of his work and his dependability.  Dan’s favorite pastimes however were fishing on his Boston Whaler, relaxing with his family, and hosting BBQs. Dan touched many lives with his charm and generosity, both with his time and friendship to everyone he met.  Dan was very involved in the Three Village community and an active member of the Bayview Beach Association, Strongs Neck Civic Association, and Boy Scouts.  Dan was a devoted father and even learned to love the game of baseball to support his boys.  Dan also took pride in refurbishing the family’s home, room by room, with creativity and attention to detail.  Dan is survived by his wife, Stephanie Friend, and their sons, Nathaniel and Mason Diers, and Jack Friend.  Remaining loved ones include his siblings, Adam Diers, Cynthia Diers and Karen Piddoubny, his parents, Eric and Julie Diers, his nieces and nephew, Brianna, Jessica and Brenden Diers, and his uncle, Robert Diers.  Memorial services will be held at Bryant Funeral Home, 411 Old Town Rd., East Setauket, NY on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 from 2:00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00 PM.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to: The Nathaniel and Mason Diers Education Trust, 26 Woodfield Rd., Stony Brook, NY  11790.
