Christine, or "Gussy" as she was known to many of us, holds many dear spots in my memory of very old times. She was my first crush at age 10, a very cute girl who possessed a good sense of humor and was always ready to play some sort of nearly loving prank on me! Although I hadn't seen her in over 50 years, her passing saddened me greatly. It probably always will. I'll probably never forget the freshly cut grass in the Christian Avenue schoolyard which she insisted was a good shampoo! My sincerest condolences go out to all of her family. I am thinking of you.
I apologize for this late entry. I have not lived in Stony Brook since 1971. Like many Americans of Swiss background, I have traveled a great deal and settled down little. I was only informed a few days ago of Christine's passing through an accident of fate.
Gussy, I will love you fiercely, as only children can love. I am so sorry for your illness, your pain, and your having to "set sail." But I am not sorry for your impish laughter, your long, soft hair or your smile, all free from pain, as you are free now.

So shocked to belatedly learn of her passing.
Found out just today via a hint on Facebook and through Google.
Had wanted to tell her about the passing of our good, mutual friend -- Mark (later, Marla) Krowlikowski of Christian Avenue, Setauket -- who attended Kindergarten with us at the Stony Brook Union Free School atop Christian Avenue before transferring to a Roman Catholic parochial school. He later taught for 32 years at St. Francis Prep School in Queens.
I also wanted to share an update about another classmate of ours, Jacques Pluss of Stony Brook, a French-American who attended middle schools with us.
I shall later share my more personal observations regarding Christine. Godspeed.
