Maureen, I am so sorry for your loss. He was such a warm, funny guy, and so passionate about his work. Steve's level of commitment to ending sexual violence always inspired me. I loved working with Steve at the Women's Center, and the students loved him, too. For a while, before he became well-known on campus, he was referred to as "the bald sex guy." Then students got to know him and he became a beloved figure. He truly left a legacy. The peer education group and hotline he started at Lehigh, Break the Silence, is going stronger than ever, some thirteen years later. Please accept my deepest sympathies. Kristin

To Maureen, Liam and Elliot.
I was very saddened and shocked to hear this news today. Steve was a respected colleague who brought a wealth of knowledge and skills to our communications team at GSA. It was always a pleasure to work with him not just for his abilities, but also for the good sensibility he provided to the various tasks and issues we dealt with. It was clear in our many conversations that he was a devoted husband and father. My sympathies to you and the entire family. I will keep you all in my prayers as you grieve this great loss in your lives.

I am so terribly sorry for your loss. I worked with Steve as a fellow contractor at GSA. Although we didn't interact regularly, we always enjoyed sharing stories as fellow Jersey City residents. I also took a great deal of interest in the family's move to Newark for a few years. I was always touched by Steve's hard work and dedication on the job, and I've appreciated reading about his passion to end sexual violence. My deepest sympathies go out to his family, especially his wife and young sons. Steve was a great guy and will be missed.

Maureen and family,
I wish I were able to come to the service to pay my respects and celebrate Steve's life. He was a wonderful friend and I am so glad that we kept in touch over the years. All of the many things appearing on facebook about him is a testament to how many lives he has touched. You are all in my prayers.

I was an instant fan of Steve, which I cannot say about many people, and especially about someone I'm meeting at an initial job interview. Steve traveled from Long Island to NJ to meet me at a Starbucks in the middle of summer. His remarkable stories about walking across the country with three other guys to raise awareness about sexual assault and hold men accountable was almost enough in and of itself, but of course, he had more. Steve was perhaps the only man I could imagine as a program director for the NJ Coalition Against Sexual Assault. Steve's down-to-earth charm made him many friends and admirers. I was so happy to meet Liam as a baby who Steve occasionally brought to sleep in his office, and then fell for Maureen and Elliot, too. Steve and I laughed and confided and brainstormed and were each other's job references. I haven't met another young man like Steve, the compassionate former football player. I'm profoundly sad yet grateful to have known such an advocate, father and partner to Maureen. Rest in peace, my friend. You will never be forgotten. Mg
