Dear Confoy family and friends,
I bear no measure to the sorrow you must feel, but I was deeply saddened to hear the news. Maybe these words will provide you some comfort when time permits.
Buddy was an intelligent, vivacious man with a great sense of humor. Until today, I do not think I could recall his birth name. I think we met in a class at Ward Melville in 1982. I was sitting near him, and two other wonderful people, Paul Riggio and Tracey Polito. Buddy loved David Letterman, the Beach Boys and Bruce Springsteen - who I thought sounded like an old man on the Muppets show. Buddy could recap. David Letterman episodes from the night before with vivid detail, and I thought, I must see this show. I made two feeble attempts to stay up late and failed. I always thought…how does he stay up so late? Sometimes he would name some periodical that rated Beach Boys and Springsteen lyrics as some of the best ever written. I would roll my eyes. Years later I was a Bruce convert. A few months ago I read that “God Only Knows” by the Beach Boys (1966) was one of the greatest American pop songs ever written and that Paul McCartney would play it over and over, and his only regret was not writing it himself. I thought of Bud.
Later in ‘82 a bunch of us met in his – your basement. His two brothers were home from Villanova (the first time I had heard of the place). He was very proud of them, and I recall the Boss playing –to my chagrin- loudly in the corner.
Last year I was station in Guantanamo Bay, and Buddy sent a Facebook message on my birthday, one of those brief “Happy Birthday” things. Not being a fan of social media, I saw it a bit later, and thought how nice it is to hear from an old classmate.
I am stationed at the Pentagon now, and on the wall across from my desk there is a quote from President Kennedy regarding his time in the Navy. Allow me the liberty to alter a bit. Any man or women who maybe asked … I think can respond with a good deal of pride and satisfaction…I was friends with Buddy Confoy.
I am on leave in Maine and unable to attend, but I know you will be surrounded by the amazing people whose lives have been touched by Buddy. Please feel free to contact me if in you are D.C. over the next year. A friend of Buddy’s is a friend of mine. Warm regards, Christopher Scholl, Nova ‘88

We only became friends 7 short months ago when you saw your high school buddy on FB had a sister. We became instant "besties" as you called it and you will forever hold a place in my heart. Your laugh and your humor were both infectious and I will never forget you. My condolences to the entire Confoy Family.

Sorry and shocked by Bud’s passing. His passion and enthusiasm for all that he held dear (Family, Friends, Politics, Mets, Jets) were both unmatched and unwavering. Most of our conversations in recent years were either about sports or politics. Even though we were not always in agreement, Bud's positions were sincere and unselfish, much like the man. His facebook tributes are a testament to the way in which he lived his life. May his friends and family take comfort in the many lives he touched.

You made this world a brighter place! Your devotion to the things you loved will never be forgotten. I will always think of you whenever I watch the Mets, listen to Springsteen. I'm sorry I missed your phone call the other day. To know I'll never hear you crack up laughing, or hear you call me "sis"is probably the sad selfishness in me. I hope you are at peace. The world is a dimmer place without you here. Fly with the angels until we meet again
