Pete was my hall mate in the freshman dorm, Connor Hall at New England College in the fall of 1979, and spring of 1980. Pete was the life of the college made my freshman year a success with his signature good humor and loyal friendship. I stayed friends with Pete throughout college and will miss him terribly now that he’s sadly gone.

Mr. Thompson - You were so charismatic, energetic, positive and upbeat you always went above and beyond for your students, particularly Me. I remember you always welcomed us into your office to talk about social issues and help us navigate HS. You had the bestest laugh and stride as you walked the hallways. Your pride for KP illuminated brightly and you left too early. But I know that Heaven gained an amazing Soul who will always be cheering on with KP Spirit. God bless your wife, children, family and friends

I am so sorry to hear of the loss of Mr. Thompson. He had such a tremendous impact on everyone he taught and coached at Kings Park High School. He had a unique ability to bring people together and to make everyone welcome in his class or on his team.

The impact Mr. Thompson had on me is incredible. All 4 years of High School were spent with Mr. Thompson in one way or another. On the basketball court and lacrosse field he instilled a confidence in me that let me know I could achieve any goals I set out to reach. He had a way of always making me laugh while letting me know what I needed to improve upon. We have so many memories that I will cherish forever.

Mr. Thompson truly inspired me to become the teacher and coach I am today. Every day, I try to instill the same values in my students and athletes that he instilled in me.

My condolences to the Thompson family. RIP Coach.

You might remember what people say, but you always remember how people made you feel.
Coach Thompson always made people feel good, as if he had a special one-of-kind connection with so many..inside jokes, nicknames, he had the unique ability to make both young and old smile in an instant.

Sitting together on bus rides during hoops season, we would often talk...and the common refrain was family. We would start out with hoops and it would always circle back to family.

Prayers and condolences to the Thompson family.

The Nurses and EMTs of HPDC at The Rinx will miss our friend, Pete, dearly. He was one of those individuals who would get you smiling as soon as he walked in the door, and we always looked forward to his daily visits. From taking the time to catch up on happenings in our respective lives to checking in on his hockey kids you could tell he truly cared. Always in our chats you could tell his children and their accomplishments were always a point of pride, especially his son, Paul, with whom we share a common career. We cannot imagine the void left by Pete’s passing, but we hope his family can take solace in knowing that he will be remembered by many. The Rinx will not be the same without him.

I will always remember Pete for being not only a great coach and teacher but as one of the funniest people I’ve ever met. Pete truly had a tremendous impact on the many children he came in contact with they all his endeavors including my five children and myself. I will never forget coming up to school on Halloween to drop something off for my son and Pete was dressed up as Dorothy from wizard of oz with a dog taped to his butt and a sign that said “where is Toto”. Priceless and typical Pete Thompson. Just spreading joy may god bless you and your family.

Last we spoke was a little more than a year ago, Pete spoke so proudly about Cindy and his children. I am so sorry for their loss. My condolences to all his family and friends. Pete had so much wisdom which I’m sure he imparted on his beloved family. We were fraternity brothers at New England College and graduated together in 1983. Pete was the most loyal friend. Humble, but passionate. We saw each other too seldom since graduation. I cherish every time we were able to spend together and will always remember our times in Henniker, NH. We laughed, we sang, we drank beer, we played games, so much more. I am a better person for knowing Pete. That is a true sign of a life well lived – a lasting legacy. Tank was one of a kind. I will miss you my friend. Rest in Peace Brother.

I met Pete while working at Hidden Pond Day camp years ago where he always made me laugh or smile! He even put in a good word for me at Kings Park schools prior to an interview I had. More recently, I had the pleasure of reconnecting with him at the Rinx preschool where he taught my daughter, Gena, who he also made laugh and smile! My heart breaks that you will no longer be here to make us smile, but I know your impact will last forever! I feel lucky to have known you!! Sending prayers to his family and friends! He will be truly missed!

Once in a while you get lucky and your earliest friends leave an indelibly positive mark on your life. It's a precious gift whose value might not be realized until you get "older and wiser." Even if your paths don't cross for many years, the gift remains. Pete Thompson was that friend for so many of us at KPHS. He gave us that gift and we are all better for it. Knowing Pete was an honor. Calling Pete a friend was a privilege. My thoughts and prayers are with his family today and always.

Though I'd only met Pete a few times, at family events, I remember him being such a friendly person with a great sense of humor. Now, reading the comments in this guestbook, I think: how lucky are all these people who got to know him well. As difficult as it is to lose such a good friend, encouraging coach, inspiring teacher, loving husband, father, brother - they're all blessed to have had their lives touched by this extraordinary man. The positive effect he has had on so many lives, has truly changed the world. And that never leaves us. His good works and spirit are now eternally within our hearts to share with others.

Dear Thompson Families -

Finding words ....

My Kings Park - High School Memories are inclusive of a friendship with Pete... Pete was always a great dose of warmth in the crazy hallways of high school drama, bouncing hormones and independent spirits ; with a wink, many smiles, wisecracks and fun, Pete offered the warmth that lives in kindness.

He embraced life with a dose of spunk that always made my day when I would see him.. He was friendly to those that were often ignored in ways that gave you pause and caused you to look in the mirror.... He encouraged those that were incredibly shy - and - let them know that they had words worth hearing.. He was 'his own self'... and it is obvious how he touched so many peoples lives..

We did not hang out on an everyday basis; but we shared the common bond of big family and the ties that connected our families via 'big brothers', and 'little brother'... we 'adopted' each others big brothers (Kevin/Terry duo) because they were so close - and - that sealed the deal for our friendship.. Once connected, Pete always had my back in a way that did not have words - and - he made my day every time I saw him..

Special Man - Special Family

Cindy, Valerie & Paul /
Richard, Kevin, Jay & Timmy...
Wishing you peace of mind - and - strength from the bond of love..

blessings,
Colleen (Schulke)

My condolences to Pete’s family. Pete and I went New England College, pledged the same fraternity together and played lacrosse. The last time I saw Pete was at Don Emerson’s retirement party in NH a few years ago and he had not changed that much from when I knew him in college. The two things that I will always remember about Pete are that anytime he was around you he always filled the room with his presence and no matter what he always had your back. RIP brother and see you on the other side.

Words seem inadequate to express the sadness we feel. We will always remember Pete as the wonderful, happy & thoughtful man he was, visiting on Christmas Eve dressed as Santa, his awesome Halloween costumes, then fighting neighborhood crime at night with John. I Knew Pete as "Tank", in college. He had a quick wit, and a larger than life personality He was two years ahead of me, and we were in the same fraternity. He used to give me crap sometimes, but you couldn't help but love the guy. He could captivate an entire room, with that charisma of his, at the blink of an eye. Such a powerful life force he had, that I recall him like it was only a couple weeks ago. Great laughs is how I will remember him. He reminded one not to take life so damn seriously all the time, and to enjoy it while we're here. And now he reminds me of what a very short time we all are here for. I absolutely believe, deep in my heart, that this life is just training wheels for the real event. Pete is cracking them all up in a much much better place.

Dearest Thompson family,
I heard about Pete only recently, and my heart crumbled. I remember Pete, Jay and Timmy coming over to play when we were all so young. Those were the best years; waiting for the right time to either invite friends over, or hoping they'd knock on our door.
We grew up, with life plans and families that took us out of the old neighborhood, but those memories never left. I am saddened beyond words, and send the most heartfelt condolences to the wonderful Thompson family.

I’m so very heartbroken for you all . Pete was one of the best people I knew . I was a young teen who figured skated at the rinx and Pete was one of my number one fans . He always cheered me on . I became a camp counselor and he brought his little girl Valiere to me and said she will be with you , melted my heart and a few years ago he met my daughter and it was like a full circle . He was just as happy now and he was then . A man so full of life and love . Taken so soon just way to soon . No words will help ease the pain , but I will say that he will be up there in heaven with that huge heart, smile and laugh cheering everyone on from there . Rest easy Pete you will greatly be missed .

My sincere condolences to the entire Thompson family for your loss.

Peter was a very special person. He was my teacher and also coached me in football and lacrosse at Kings Park High School. More importantly, he was a teacher and coach in the game of life, always pushing myself and so many others to be better everyday as students, in athletics, and in the community. This had a profound impact on my life and I am forever grateful.

Coach Thompson - Thank you for everything you did for me. God Bless

As my coach in several sports from junior high through high school, Coach Thompson had a tremendous impact on my life, my career in the Navy, and who I am today. He was such a great mentor and role model who really knew how to connect with people. Gone way too early but, like he has with so many others, his legacy lives in all us who were lucky enough to call him Coach or Teacher. RIP Coach!!

What a fun and lovable colleague Mr. Pete was! He had such a wonderful connection with the children and all the children at The Rinx loved him! Anyone that had the pleasure of meeting him will forever remember his voice bellowing in the halls saying “winner! Winner! Chicken dinner!” And “freeze like cheese!” And “Toes on the line!”
Mr. Pete, my heart breaks for knowing that I will no longer be able to hear your voice and have fun conversations; yet deep down I know you are no longer in pain. I was hoping to celebrate our birthdays together (after discovering that we were birthday buddies last year) but God had other plans...I pray for your soul and comfort & peace for your family. I will miss you terribly, Mr. Pete...rest easy, birthday buddy xoxo...

Mr. Thompson was my gym teacher in 10th grade. He was a great teacher. He always joked around with me saying where's DW?? Since my name is Arthur. Words can't describe how upset I am with his passing. He was a great teacher and cared about his students. I haven't been back to the high school in 3 years since I graduated. But KPHS will definitely not be the same with out him!! Thank you for being my gym teacher Mr. Thompson!!! You were a great guy!!!

Pete Thompson will forever be etched in my mind as a man of flawless integrity, tremendous compassion, and endless commitment to the cause of “doing good.” Pete was the teacher that we should all aspire to be, he taught life; compassion, struggle, perseverance, honor, commitment and courage. Pete was my superhero, and although our friendship was relatively short, he will be forever on my mind and in my heart. Be at peace my friend.
