Hello Seth,
My name is Patty (Donnelly) D'Angelo and I am writing with condolences as I just found Mikes obituary today. I was sent an anniversary reminder of his daughter Marie's passing today and decided to look up Mike again to see how he was doing in the Veterans home. It saddens me to know he passed a year ago this month, but he is now at peace with his beloved wife.
You see my Mom, Terry Donnelly and Mike were dear friends for many years after their spouses had passed away. Mike was like part of our family and we had the pleasure of meeting his lovely daughter Marie.
I had contacted Mike after he went into the VA home and he and Mom spoke around the time that Marie was ill. After that Mom went into a home herself and the communication lapsed. After Marie passed away we did speak to Mike one more time and I was hoping to bring Mom to visit him but never got the chance. Mom became ill and I moved her to update NY where I live now. I am happy to say that Mom is doing well now and often asks about Mike, but then hesitates as she does not want to get the news if he had passed.
Your Uncle Mike and my Mom were very blessed to have lived full lives through many difficult years such as The Depression, and WW11, but they were both from very strong stock, with solid faith. They certainly don't make them like that anymore, sadly.
Mike and Mom had a tradition of visiting his wife Marie's and my Dad's graves together on holidays, birthdays and anniversaries, sitting beside both and offering prayers for their loves ones.
As I said, Mom is doing well still even at 97 years old but when her time comes she will be interned with my Dad, just a few sections away from Mike & Marie. I will be sure to visit Mike's grave and keep the tradition going for both families.
Mike is very fondly remembered by us for his 'ear to ear' grin, hearty laugh and his 'bear hug' handshake, as well as loving to share his homegrown tomato's and leaks with us. He was a wonderful man and I'm glad he was a part of our lives. Prayers to you and your family. - Patty D'Angelo

For Mike's Family .... My Dad & Mike were great buddies. I remember going out fishing on the Great South Bay with them & George & ?? , when I was a kid .
'Frost - Fishing" too , at Gilgo Beach, dead of winter , at night, in the car's headlight beams.
Last time I saw Mike - he & my Dad picked me up at my brother ,Tom's house in E.Hampton , at 4;30 a.m., summer , 2001, then we headed to Montauk in Mikes truck.... got to their fav coffee shop for a short breakfast and onto the Charter boat around sunrise.
Fished all day - did fairly well . We laughed alot , I heard old tales and futuristic 'guess-works' ... was a pleasure for me to see these old friends havin' a great time of it !
My Dad & Mike called each other regularly . Until my old man left the planet in May of 2013.
So , from me & my dad : " HAPPY TRAILS , MIKE .... and GOOD FISHING too " !
