Aleksander Gajewski, 78, of Pittsfield, Massachusetts, passed away after a long illness on October 17, 2017. Aleksander was a devoted husband of Justyna, a doting father of Agata and a loving father in law of Sumeer. He cherished his two grandsons, Neil and Nicholas.
Aleksander was born in the small village of Lipa Krepa, Poland, on July 11, 1939. World War II broke out just two months later. He lost his father when he was only five years old. But he transcended the challenges of his early years and he went on to become a physician, graduating from the Wroclaw Medical Academy. He specialized in Obstetrics and Gynecology, and he helped bring fifteen thousand happy babies into this world. In 1983, he immigrated to the US with his wife and daughter, where he continued his medical and scientific career at the IVF Laboratory at Boston University. After retiring in 2006, Aleksander and his wife moved to Pittsfield, Massachusetts. He loved his new life in the Berkshires. He became an avid gardener, and his tomatoes and raspberries were a joy that he looked forward to every year.
Most of all, Aleksander loved his family. He was so proud to walk his daughter down the aisle when she married Sumeer, whom he loved like his own son. The happiest times came when Neil and Nicholas were born. He adored his grandsons and he treasured every moment with them. He will be loved and missed forever by everyone who loved him.
